as you know now, the bill has passed the House. Some astute commentators on Blue Sky, knowing the specific players involved, correctly predicted that certain Republican politicians and the House Freedom Caucus would cave after X number of hours/days/weeks depending on the specific person based on past behavior, and I'm devastated to see that they were correct.
“You deserve a senator that works for you, not their billionaire buddies.” Wait. What? Who said that? I'm not sure if I should laugh or scream or both.
The Democrats would have landslide victories if they did this coupled with education about policy. I think for the latter they need an ecosystem of smaller voices (like mine) that take on policy issues and explain the whys, what needs changed, and a roadmap to get there.
Kamala talked about economic policies to help the average American at every rally. She had concrete policies and where did it get her. Unfortunately many Americans wanted a daddy to take care of them and rid them of the evil immigrants they were taught to hate. That was a far more addictive elixir than a $25k down payment assistance for a first home or protecting the social safety net for millions. If American voters want change, they need to vote in great enough numbers so Dems have majorities sufficient to pass what they want and need to do. Giving us the WH without Congress is a waste of time. I'm hopeful that this administration will teach voters once and for all what Repugnants really stand for such that they'll play hell ever getting elected again.
This is fundamentally false. Let’s not revise history especially when it was just a few months ago.
1. Kamala very famously didn’t even bother having a policy section on her website because she gambled that voters wouldn’t care.
2. Democrats held a trifecta 2021-23 and did nothing with it. Instead of paying attention to the issues of their voter base, they chose to ignore the signs and set the path for SCOTUS to overturn Roe v Wade. We gave them a majority and they gave us Trump.
3. Kamala’s campaign very famously blew through $1 billion on campaigning with the Cheneys, paying those consultant fees, and ignoring a war that has depressed the turnout of her voter base.
4. Democrats continued to cage and deport immigrants. Just because it was ignored doesn’t mean family separations didn’t happen like they are now.
5. The economic inducements to voters Kamala offered during her campaign? Crypto for Black entrepreneurs. Seriously.
Maybe constituent feedback is getting through? (or the fundraising stopped working)
I can easily picture that one scene from Blazing Saddles. "Gentlemen, we've gotta protect our phoney baloney jobs! We must do something IMMEDIATELY!!" "Haarumph! Haarumph!!"
Sorry for all my comments but I think the fundamental reasons why Democrats rarely do something useful on economic issues is simple: money in politics. If you need to depend on rich donors you won't go after their interests. The difference with what parties do in Europe where donations are super illegal is obvious. It's sad that the Left in the US still doesn't understand that it's THE root cause of all the other problems
I understand it’s the root cause of our problems, but i also know that only a people-driven tsunami can deliver us the kinds of politicians and political movements that can overcome the stacked deck and pass the policies (and appoint the justices) required to get money out of politics.
