Would you please cover socialist Ksama Sawant's independent challengeto Dem incumbent Adam Smith in the 9th Congressional District in Washington state? In her decade on the Seattle City Council, she never backed down from a fight and frequently won. Amazon, large corporations and wealthy people fought hard to destroy her in a recall. She won that as well.

She succeeded in passing $15 minimum wage, an Amazon tax on large corporations to pay for affordable housing, significant legal protections for tenants, a law preventing landlords from raising rents on substandard apartments. A major key to her success was her ability to mobilize voters take action against the wealthy, corporations, and the business Democrats (which are a significant portion of the Seattle Democratic party).

If she won, which I consider at least somewhat likely, IMHO she could single-handedly shake up Congress by shaming conservative Democrats to actually vote for the needs of people rather than large corporations and billionaires.

I am an 81 year old senior and I thank you for this post. I also believe that the Democratic party is no where, and I have been a Democrat my whole life. I have always been for the working people, but the Democratic party has veered off course.

This country needs term limits, AND age limits. Many "senior" politicians on both sides need to step aside and let the young politicians take over.

Every day, I see Trump get whatever he asks for, the majority of the Supreme Court is complicit in what is taking place!! I am very disturbed at what I am seeing.

The only thing we've got left is our votes.

I agree with you, Elizabeth. The future must be guided by those who will occupy it, not those who have reached the end of their lives. What the elders should be doing is mentoring those who will take up their positions, and share their experience and knowledge to assist the younger people stepping into those positions. To refuse to do this is selfish, and serves no purpose for the country, only to prolong the inevitable change. Public service should not be a lifetime career, it should be an act of selfless service and come with those age and term limits you mentioned.

Absolutely. I am most worried about losing our democracy. All our freedoms. Freedom of Speech, Freedom of the Press is what they are trying to destroy now.

I work at a womens' clinic and get young women, and sometimes their partners, to register to vote. Yesterday, I surpassed 85. I also stress the distinct possibility their voice will be eliminated if they don't use it, and use it often. The freedoms you mention, I also mention to them. Most are aware, but many are shocked to learn this. It is up to us, as those who've been around a while, to stress the importance of participating in this Democracy, or it will be lost.
