Thank you for the article. I was Leary about Platner and never donated to him. The Nazi symbol sent warning flags. Newkirk sounds good but if I was him, I would get out front with the background. Just as we must be careful about any would-be Platner, so too we can not let the establishment crowd use another "red scare" type issue against progressives. I especially like your bringing out the record of the incumbent. This is a safe district where we need the best.

For what it’s worth, Kai has been doing this — as in activism and nonviolent protest — a very long time and he’s not some unvetted newcomer. I isolated his answer and linked to the Arizona Republic story so people can decide for themselves. And you’re right, it’s important to highlight the incumbent in all this.
Last cycle he raised $2,756,760 with 28.99% coming from PACs, 4.63% coming from small individual donations... and 66.07% coming from large individual donations.
Les than 5% is coming from small donors like the rest of us! That alone is disqualifying.
One change to be made about finance campaign laws, is that the *majority* of their funding should come from small donors.
$10 is a donation, $1,000 is an investment, $100,000, is a purchase!
