Welcome to a premium Wednesday edition of Progress Report.
This is the first entry into what should be a regular feature that I’m calling Midweek Reads (unless anyone can come up with a better name; I’m open to suggestions).
With news churning nonstop — there’s been a pivotal runoff Senate election, a high-profile (and utterly absurd) Supreme Court case, and more Classified documents found in Donald Trump’s underwear drawer over the past 24 hours alone — it can be easy to miss the significant features and detailed analysis that doesn’t easily fit into a trending topic on Twitter. Midweek Reads aims to slow it down and bring you up to speed with the stories that we find most interesting.
Before we get to that, however, here’s a bit of late night schadenfreude: Florida state Rep. Joe Harding, the author of the vile “Don’t Say Gay” law, was indicted by the Justice Department today on six felony counts that include wire fraud and money laundering.
Elsewhere in Florida, an 85-year-old creep who was just elected to the Collier County Board of Education is now facing backlash for openly calling for a new discipline regime that includes paddling students. Sadly, the guy had already built a reputation for being a twisted old weirdo by regularly commenting at school board meetings before he ever ran, so voters sort of knew what they are getting. This Friday, there will be an emergency school board meeting in Collier County to vote on a new discipline standard, so I’ll keep you updated on what the sickos wind up doing.
Alright, time to get to the reading!
