Welcome to a Monday night edition of Progress Report.
Last night, I spent an hour in conversation with Lindsey Boylan, the former New York economic development official who became the first whistleblower to publicly accuse disgraced former Gov. Andrew Cuomo of sexual harassment.
Now that Cuomo is attempting a comeback and running for mayor of NYC, Boylan has stepped up to once again speak out against the corrupt, grandma-killing sex pest, a sacrifice necessitated by the silence of New York’s most powerful politicians. She’s got a lot to say about working in government, her experiences with Cuomo, and the realities of city politics.
As we discuss in the interview, grievous scandals from Cuomo’s time in office continue to be exposed — just this past weekend, we learned that he refused to sanction Citi Field as a mass Covid vaccination site simply because he hated former Mayor Bill de Blasio and would rather punish a rival than help the people of the city he now says he wants to govern. Not that it should come as any surprise — just look at what he did to the subway system out of pure spite.
As the first significant Democratic primary since November, and now one that pits a corrupt sex pest moderate against a field of progressives, this election is going to have national consequences that resonate far beyond the outer boroughs. Any real chance of taking back the Democratic Party and align it with a populist progressive movement willing to fight oligarchy and Donald Trump is going to have to start with a big statement victory, and knocking out Andrew Cuomo would be about as big as it gets.
Please watch the interview and pass it along to as many New Yorkers as possible.
