Jordan, I always appreciate the insight you bring to the kitchen junk drawer of politics. We are now in the barrel of sewage of politics. The Democratic party hoping that putting a spoonful of wine in a barrel of sewage makes it something other than sewage is ludicrous. If you want to be against something, fine. But being against something without another option? Being less worse isn't a strategy. If you have to pick from the full fat version of Republican, or light Republican? We know how that turned out...
One thing to add (especially looking at the question mentioning DEI) is that Dems are also dumb chickenshit even when it comes to non-economic issues when they don't defend their position and don't expose Banana Republicans for saying a bunch of lies to promote non-explicit racism to get people to think that the reasons for their problems are DEI programs or someone's pronoun instead of a rigged system. So once again, what do Dems even stand for?
The Democrats should have all walked out when Al Green was forced to leave en mass with their freaking decorum. The fact that some spineless legislators in his own party voted to censure him makes me ashamed to be a Democrat. I'm already now ashamed to be an American. How clueless is Jeffries!
Great write up but I am reluctant to take any poll without a mouthful of salt. Polls got it all wrong in the election in all categories.
I only want to see polls that reflect what his cult voters are saying and not some miracle whip homogenized version of both pro and opposing trump voters. We already know anti trump voters overwhelmingly hate this narcissistic nihilist and rightly so. It is the heartbeat of trump’s troglodytes that I want to know if they are waking up. We are still being being manipulated by the press to sell air time.
I couldn't agree more, but then I think most Dems beginning with the wimpish leadership in both houses need primary challengers. Choosing a sickly 72 year old to chair a committee over a brilliant, young progressive (AOC) tells me everything about the current state of leadership of a party I once loved and gave thousands of hours and dollars to beginning with Helen Gahagan Douglas before you were even thought of Jordan. Like Dudley below, my mother gave me the same information which was confirmed in all my poly sci classes in college and that has somehow transmorphed into Schumer being the voice of Wall Street. I only donate now to individual Progressive candidates, no DCCC, not a dime- Run For Something, Justice Democrats, Sunrise Movement and so many Substack journalists that are spreading the truth like you.
In seriousness, the respondents to those last poll questions do see to want the dems to forget about equal rights for all. Tim Walz was on the New Yorker Radio Hour recently, and he made the point (that I agree with) that dems should promote broadly popular economic policies while refusing to concede an inch on equal rights for all. When challenged, Walz suggested challenging them back - what's more important, good paying jobs and affordable healthcare, or sticking it to trans kids? Because that's the subtext of those questions.
If only Dem. primary elections were as free and fair as GOP cult primaries were pre-Trump. DCCC blacklisting of progressive primary challengers ended only 4 years ago.
This is the easiest way to say this. These 10 folks are scared of their own shadow. We cannot have weak links in the chain right now. Yes, I know. We hear about the rules according to these 10 weaklings. I actually agree with that point in normal times. A question to them. How about President Felon, Co-president Drug Addict, Republican members of Congress who break ALL rules & decorum in front of your face? Is that OK? Just a question. You know what? I wish these professional fence riders would just go away. You are weak people. Some folks are. It is OK in certain situations. We all are human. However, you are in the wrong situation for that type of response. Please resign & find your true calling. You do not have the honorable characteristics needed at this moment in history. Basically, you are out of your League. Go Away!!’
Thanks for this summary of the absurdity of the so called democratic establishment! I am sick and tired of them shooting themselves in the foot! They need to be challenged! Done ever forget this! These idiots missed a bigger opportunity and have really given trump and his maga imbeciles a free pass! When will they learn? They should learn to refuse money from AIPAC and any other similar organizations!
Jordan, I'll be 72 in July and have been a lifelong Democrat. My mother explained politics to me when I was 10 years old in the plainest and simplest terms ever: "Democrats are interested in what is right for people, Republicans only care about money." Those words were uttered 60 years ago and are even more true today than they were in the early '60's. We need more young people like you to reach out and take over!!!! Programs like Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid are the easiest message to send to people. And if the stock market plunges, then that will be low hanging fruit as well. Thank you for what you do!!!
I think it's implied here that people should encourage and financially support primary challengers! Democratic voters have been far too deferential to the party establishment. They've been convinced that challenging Democrats hurts the party and leads to electoral losses, but look where backing these fossils and self-interested politicians has gotten us. It's imperative that the party responds to the public mood instead of prioritizing the crumbling institutions.

Wait, you mean to tell me that slapping a pride sticker on reagan-era austerity politics isn't popular?

"...that’s why primaries need to happen."

Jordan, don’t give me fucking polls, give me action steps…help us know what to do!
