I was an inadvertent landlord when I couldn’t unload my condo for a decent price back in the aughts. I did all I could to keep my tenant happy. A good tenant is also a paying tenant. I also didn’t raise the rent beyond what the market could take. I guess I don’t get the “profit at all costs” mentality. I hope this works out for everyone in Tacoma.
Rent control should be an emergency measure and currently it is an emergency in most places. It must be accompanied by all sorts of pro-building initiatives cause alone it would cause lower supply which would make housing cost worse. But it does accomplish some results

City councils will always be old and out of touch as long as their pay is so low that only retired people or well off business owners can afford it
Rent control doesn’t work. I’ve been in the business for 61 years. What would work would be income equality and jobs.
